Château de Rochemorin Red 2017

Château de Rochemorin Red

AOC Pessac-Léognan

Présentation

Château de Rochemorin belonged to the great philosopher and writer Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu, in the 18th century. Among other famous works, he was the author of the "Persian Letters". Montesquieu was a fine ambassador for the red wines of Rochemorin among his friends, acquaintances and the notables he met during his trips throughout Europe, never forgetting to praise the beautiful complexity and mineral characteristics of his wine, so typical of the Graves terroir. Its beautiful aromatic expression, accompanied by a well-balanced and elegant palate make this one of the most reliable wines in the appellation, while remaining very affordable.

91-93/100

A nose filled with dark, smoky and brooding fruit, with a lightly roasted edge here. The palate is rich, filled with roasted black plum spice, black cherry and damson, with a dark and reticent concentration that mirrors the nose, one underpinned by a very ripe and broad seam of tannins. An impressive wine overall, punchy and imposing, with a wealth of fruit and ripe extracted tannins. Lots of velvet grip in the finish here. An attractive wine from this lesser known estate, one that comes in a very modern style.

Very open on the nose with lots of Christmas cookie notes paired with dark fruit, gingerbread, cherry and plum. Wonderfully complex. Soft attack, going on to show blackberry and red berry notes, with medium body, fine-grained tannins and a medium-long finish. Has good potential, but needs to age somewhat.

92/100

This has a ripe dark-fruit nose with cedary oak supporting rich aromas of cassis and blackberries. The supple palate delivers a long, fleshy and fresh array of rich, ripe-fruit flesh. Drink or hold.
