Château de Barbe Blanche Red 2023

Château de Barbe Blanche | Red

AOC Lussac-Saint-Emilion

Presentation

At Château de Barbe Blanche, the word "terroir" takes on its full meaning. Situated in the heart of the Lussac-Saint-Émilion appellation, the vineyard is planted on a plateau of asteriated limestone, typical of the Saint-Émilion region. This rock provides ideal conditions and contributes to the high quality of its wines. The wine is full-bodied on the mid-palate, with a mellow tannic structure, roundness and hints of lightly toasted fruit. It is a fine, elegant wine with good ageing potential.

The wine

Varietal

Merlot : 72%

Cabernet franc : 28%

Alcohol content

15% vol.

Weather conditions

2023 was marked by a uniform start to vegetation: bud-break dates returned to normal, foliage developed rapidly and the bunches emerged beautifully. Heavy rainfall in the spring tarnished the start of the season somewhat, with mildew appearing in places. There was no hot summer in 2023, but relatively cool nights and warm but not excessively hot days in July and August created ideal ripening conditions for the grapes, which produced remarkable aromatic potential.

Harvest

13 September - 25 September 2023.

Tasting

The beautiful deep purple colour immediately catches the eye.
The nose seduces with its intensity and aromatic richness, harmoniously blending ripe black fruits, liquorice and subtle vanilla notes.
On the palate, the attack is structured and full of depth. The mid-palate is full-bodied and velvety, offering generosity, while the tannins are mellow and harmonious, leading to a long and balanced finish. A seductive and balanced wine that combines aromatic intensity with drinking pleasure.
