Château de Barbe Blanche Red 2020

Château de Barbe Blanche | Red

AOC Lussac-Saint-Emilion

Présentation

At Château de Barbe Blanche, the word "terroir" takes on its full meaning. Situated in the heart of the Lussac-Saint-Émilion appellation, the vineyard is planted on a plateau of asteriated limestone, typical of the Saint-Émilion region. This rock provides ideal conditions and contributes to the high quality of its wines. The wine is full-bodied on the mid-palate, with a mellow tannic structure, roundness and hints of lightly toasted fruit. It is a fine, elegant wine with good ageing potential.

Conditions météorologiques

2020 was marked by very mild temperatures and contrasting precipitation: heavy spring rainfall was followed by an intense summer drought. The fairly mild winter led to early bud break. The summer heat gave way to cool nights in late August, ideal for ripening grapes.

Dégustation

Beautiful, deep red colour with violet highlights.
The nose offers us a gourmand woodiness, perfectly melted and well balanced with the fruit. It lets out notes of black fruits (blackberry, black cherry), of great intensity.
The attack is frank. The mid-palate has good volume. A fine tannic structure accompanies us throughout. The palate is powerful and full-bodied, with delicious notes of black fruit. Long finish. A very pleasant wine with good ageing potential.

16/20

Lummy, juicy and dark fruits on the nose. Rich and ripe mouthfeel with decent fresh acidity to support the intense fruit-laden core. A nice earthy feel towards the end. Plenty to enjoy here, an exuberant but not overworked wine.

91/100

Dark purple colour with violet hue and black core. Elegant nose with ripe blackcurrant and juicy blackberries, hints of elderberries in the background. On the palate well balanced with juicy fruit, fresh blackcurrant and ripe blackberries, discreet spiciness, firm yet ripe tannins, freshness and convincing length.
