Château La Louvière has many fascinating facets. The sumptuous architecture of the château building dates from the late 18th century, but winegrowing here goes back more than 700 years. The first vines were planted circa 1310, although modern winemaking dates from the 17th century and was handed down by able monks from the Carthusian monastery in Bordeaux, who had acquired considerable talent as viticulturists and winemakers. The people who produce the wine in the 21st century have inherited these time-honoured methods, adding just the right amount of innovation and modernity to make the utmost of the outstanding terroir. 2018 was one of the warmest years since 1900, featuring above-average temperatures, the second hottest summer to date, and abundant sunshine… Heavy rainfall in the first half of the year was followed by persistent, near-record drought conditions in September.

Tasting
Deep ruby-red colour, enhanced by occasional deep purple highlights.
Swirling in the glass gradually unveils the full complexity of this wine, featuring roasted, toasty, and vanilla notes.
Starts out straightforward on the palate, underpinned by a fine tannic structure. Full-bodied
and rich mid-palate – a real pleasure to taste. Well-structured, with wonderful freshness.
Fruity notes come to the fore, mingled with roasted overtones, culminating in a lovely long
finish. This wine has good ageing potential. Wait a few years to fully appreciate all its qualities.

In stainless-steel temperature-controlled tanks with patented cap-breaking system and concrete tanks with pigeage.
